LIN Media Invites Students Pursuing Degrees in Broadcast Television or Digital Media to Apply for Minority Scholarship and Training Program

LIN Media is now accepting applications for its Minority Scholarship and Training Program and will award one broadcast television scholarship/internship and one digital media scholarship/internship in April 2012, to commence in Summer 2012.
Each student will receive a two-year scholarship for up to ten thousand dollars ($10,000) per year, which can be used towardtuition, fees, books, and room and board. In addition, LIN Media will provide each student with hands-on training through a paid internship program at one of its television stations around the country. The Minority Scholarship recipients will be assigned full-time positions at LIN Media upon graduation and successful completion of the training program.
LIN Media’s Minority Scholarship and Training Program is an integral part of the Company’s strategy to strengthen its talent base and deepen connections within its local communities by building on the cultural diversity of its workforce. LIN Media has been awarding two-year scholarships to ambitious students interested in a wide spectrum of fields in or relating to broadcast television since 1998.
In January 2011, LIN Media announced the expansion of its Minority Scholarship and Training Program to include a new two-year scholarship and internship for multicultural students pursuing a career in digital media. The decision to expand the program reflects the continued growth of the Company’s digital business and its commitment to promoting diversity in the workplace, which helps ensure the dynamic future of local media.
Eligibility
- Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and be a declared major in broadcast journalism, digital multimedia, mass/speech/digital communication, television production, or marketing, at an accredited university or college within the United States.
- Applicant must have completed sufficient semester hours or similar educational units to be classified by his/her college or university as a sophomore.
- Applicant must be a citizen of the United States, or have permanent resident status; and be of non-white origin.

Dana Vaughters, LIN Media’s 2005 recipient, has been an account executive with WIVB-TV in Buffalo, NY since 2007.

Meet Joshua Chagani
Josh Chagani, LIN Media’s 2009 recipient, is a full-time Promotion Assistant at WAVY-TV and WVBT-TV in Norfolk, VA.
“Josh has been a talented addition to the WAVY and FOX 43 Creative Services department since his graduation from Elon University,” said Doug Davis, General Manager, WAVY-TV and WVBT-TV. “His experience at WALA-TV in Mobile, AL and WOOD-TV in Grand Rapids prepared him to contribute immediately. Josh has made an impact with his variety of skills in shooting, writing, editing and even graphics. He is a quick study with a willingness to pitch in and has participated in a number of station-sponsored community events.”
